The HKS Prize is an award given by the government of Hong Kong to recognize those who have made significant contributions to Hong Kong culture. Recipients receive both money and a certificate; thus making this prize an integral part of Hong Kong culture.
The winners of the Hong Kong Prize are chosen by an independent jury composed of experts in different fields. Winners also get an opportunity to present their ideas before an audience and take home one of Hong Kong’s highest awards: The HK Prize!
Sameen Agha from Pakistan was honored with the grand prize of art competition with her sculpture “Home Is a Terrible Place to Love”, made of red marble. Voters at an exclusive gala event held at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong awarded it.
Li Tiegang from China took home first prize in photography with his work The Last Song of the Night and won an impressive $30,000 total award plus a trophy and certificate – certainly an impressive win that deserved recognition!
Journalism also saw many winners, with news editor Matt Haldane and reporters Dylan Butts and Xinmei Shen taking first runner-up for their piece on Hong Kong’s barriers to becoming a cryptocurrency hub in November 2023. Eric Ng of Climate News Editor won second runner-up with his October piece discussing factors affecting trading volume on Core Climate Carbon Credit Market – Hong Kong’s inaugural voluntary carbon credit exchange market.
The Hong Kong Prize (hk Prize) is an annual award presented to outstanding scientists and research teams located in Hong Kong as well as research-related institutions set up by higher education institutions located within Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for their achievements in scientific innovation, technological innovation with practical application, transformation or both. Hosted by Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. An independent review board consisting of prominent scholars from universities and research institutions selects its awardees for each category.
The Board of the Hong Kong Prize serves as the primary decision-making body for BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE and is charged with reviewing and interpreting its Charter; proposing important scientific research fields to the jury for consideration for THE PRIZE; selecting members for appointment on both Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team, setting criteria for nominating experts, verifying and approving final review results as well as taking corrective actions against any violations of professional ethics by Review Committee members or Compliance Oversight Team members as well as taking measures if any violations occur; should this occur then The Board reserves its right to withdraw all awards; withdraw prize money, certificates or trophies accordingly.
