The Hongkong Prize is one of the world’s premier writing competitions, drawing thousands of applicants each year. Winners receive both monetary prizes and the opportunity to attend an awards ceremony, which can advance their careers and increase media coverage. Before submitting their manuscripts for submission, however, authors must first read carefully over all rules and regulations to avoid making errors that could hamper their chances of winning.
Established by HKATI in 2022 and supported by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited as title sponsor, the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is an independent merit-based award that honours outstanding scientific researchers/ teams in five fields: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics; Life and Health; New Materials and New Energy; Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech. Renowned scholars and experts from Hong Kong and abroad annually select outstanding individuals or research groups from these fields, honouring both their pioneering efforts as well as how they apply their achievements for society’s benefit.
As well as rewarding excellence in research conducted by young fellows of the Academy of Medicine, this prize recognizes excellence in research conducted by young fellows within 10 years of receiving Academy Fellowship. Only principal authors who have been granted Academy Fellowship can apply; research submitted must be original and focused on clinical practice or medical research of any field; case reports, review articles or letters to editors will not qualify as valid articles for nomination.
Furthermore, the Hongkong Prize will encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students to conduct research into various aspects of Hong Kong history, its relationships with China and Asia, new theories and concepts in studying Hong Kong history, politics, society and culture, etc. In order to encourage dialogue between scholars, students, researchers and members of the general public alike, and publish articles or books related to Hong Kong topics.
Finally, the Hongkong Prize will recognize individuals or organisations that have helped shape Hong Kong’s international cooperation role and image on a global stage. This may include Hong Kong philanthropists who have contributed significantly to Hong Kong’s economic, social and cultural development as well as those making significant contributions in other areas.
A panel of judges comprising scientists and academics from local universities, government officials, and representatives from non-governmental organisations will select the winner of this year’s prize competition, to be presented at a gala ceremony hosted by Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Nominations will be assessed according to individual contributions made without regard for race, nationality, gender or religious affiliation. Winning entries should have an immediate impact on improving health, safety and wellbeing of Hong Kongers as well as in wider society. They will be displayed at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 3-7 March 2019. A shortlist will be announced by 31 January 2020 followed by final winners being revealed in May 2021.
