How to Play Roullete

Roulette is a casino game in which players make bets on the outcome of a spinning wheel. The outcome is solely dependent on luck, making this popular both land-based and online casinos alike. There are various bet types, some with increased odds than others.

To play Roulette, a player must first purchase a roulette chip from the dealer (or croupier). They will then ask which denomination of chips you would like. After selecting a value, your dealer will mark each of your chips with its corresponding color to indicate its denomination value and also give each player an individually colored marker that indicates their place at the table. After clearing away losing bets from the table and starting another round, their dealer will remove losing bets and start again.

Every roulette table displays the minimum and maximum bets allowed, enabling you to select one that best meets your budget while keeping in mind that higher bets tend to result in smaller payouts. To increase your odds of success, begin placing inside bets – a grouping of numbers not adjacent – where possible.

The High or Low Bet: Also known as passe et manque in French, this bet involves wagering on either the first 18 numbers (1-18) or last 18 numbers (19-36), with a house edge of 5%. Conversely, impair et pair offers odds for whether an odd or even number will be hit when placing this bet – its payout ratio being 1:1.

Street/Three Number/Side Bet (known in French as sixain): This bet involves placing chips along any outer border of any row containing three consecutive numbers; winning pays out at 5-1. Alternatively, The Dozens Bet (douzaine in French) allows bettors to place bets on 12 numbers from either the first dozen, second dozen, or third dozen that contain consecutive numbers; winning pays 5-1 with an edge of 2-1 for this bet.

The Roulette Wheel: Also known as roue d’Or in French, the roulette wheel consists of a solid wooden disk slightly convex in shape with 36 compartments (called frets by roulette croupiers) numbered consecutively from 1 to 36; on American-style wheels there are an extra two green compartments labeled with zero as frets; when spun by the croupier the ball drops into one of your chosen pockets on which bets were placed, and then bets close off after which all winning bets will be paid out. Until another spin occurs the rest of the table will wait in anticipation for their turn to spin.
