The Hong Kong Prize offers high school students an incredible way to engage with science. Not only can they win cash prizes, but also have access to some of Hong Kong’s premier research facilities – an amazing way of encouraging more kids into science that will only improve their economy and healthcare access in future.
This prize is an independent merit-based award designed to recognize scientific research that makes a positive difference in society. It aims to motivate young researchers and scholars alike to follow their passions while broadening global perspectives. Recognizing work across fields including artificial intelligence/robotics research, life science research, new materials energy production and FinTech; both individuals and teams may enter. No more than five people should win in any one award field annually.
Hong Kong prizes are given out annually by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation, a non-profit organization sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. Awards are determined based on an independent expert review process with representatives from academia, government agencies and businesses in HK participating. It provides scientists researching in Hong Kong with an invaluable opportunity to have their work evaluated by experts from their field of study.
Winners receive a monetary prize, trophies and the opportunity to visit some of Hong Kong’s premier research facilities, helping gain international exposure for their work while expanding their career horizons. Finalists may even present their work at an awards ceremony where networking with fellow scientists can occur.
Though none of the imprisoned pro-democracy leaders may ever win an HK Prize, comedian Dayo Wong Tze-wah and actress Bowie Lam Bo-yee have both seen multiple nominations this year; Bowie Lam Bo-yee stands an excellent chance at success considering her portrayal of an infuriating nursing home warden in In Broad Daylight.
The Hong Kong Prize for Young Research Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine is an annual accolade that recognizes excellence in research among younger Fellows of this renowned medical academy. To apply, applicants must submit an article from their field of expertise – clinical studies, observational or epidemiological articles or meta-analyses are all eligible. The award provides access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities and seminars related to your field, while those making the top ten will receive shopping vouchers and F&B benefits at awards ceremonies held throughout the city.
